The next CORE ARES ARRL Volunteer Examiner session will be on Saturday 25 August 2007 at 9 a.m. at the Fort Campbell Federal Credit Union location at 2050 Lowe's Drive, Clarksville, TN 37040. For more information, contact Hank or Howard at (931) 237-2672. Talk-in is on the W4CHM 442.900+ repeater, 110.9 tone.
The C.O.R.E. Group supported the Bald Eagle Challenge on 22 October 2006 at Land Between the Lakes. Supporting the race, a 42 mile mountain bike race along the North-South trail, provides valuable experience in providing communications coverage in an austere environment, and assists the race sponsors with providing a safe race experience for thee participants. Many thanks to Brian, KC4FAN, Jack, AA4TA and Carmen, K1MED, for the help in supporting the event. And yes, camping out at LBL in late October is as much fun as it sounds.
Interested in Emergency Communications? The next monthly CORE ARES Net is scheduled for 8 pm on Thursday, 2 August 2007 on 146.925 simplex the W4CHM 442.900+ repeater, 110.9 tone. This is a change to the first Thursday of the month as opposed to the first Tuesday.

The C.O.R.E. Group had two major events in June 2005. The Relay for Life, the premier fund raising event for the American Cancer Society, was well attended and a great deal of fun. Al displayed Amateur Radio satellite and we were joined by a number of our Ham friends. Thanks to all who joined us. Field Day 2005 was a blast as usual, in spite of relatively uncooperative Ham bands. We honed our setup at the American Red Cross Chapter House, running 5F with a GOTA, or Get On the Air, station as well as APRS and satellite demonstrations. Again, many thanks to all who attended.
In the first months of our existence, the C.O.R.E. Group provided communications support for the May 5 Chain Reaction Cycle Club’s White Lightning 15 Mile Cross Country Bicycle Race at Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky, operated a Special Event station for International Museums on the Air Weekend from the Customs House Museum in Clarksville on June 15th and 16th 2002, operated our first Field Day site and conducted our first ARRL/VEC VE testing session.
Since those early days we've strengthened our relationship with the Customs House Museum, and an Amateur Radio station display is fully operational and available to all visiting hams upon proof of licensure. Another Field Day has come and gone, this one set up at the Red Cross chapter headquarters in Clarksville, TN as an "F" Class station. The Red Cross is now our primary served agency.
The Special Event Station from the Customs House Museum in Clarksville the weekend of 25-26 January 2003 and another VE testing session on February 8th at the Montgomery County Public Library in Clarksville at 9am were both well attended- the VE session in particular had our largest turnout yet- 6 new Technician licensees and 3 new Extra Class licensees have been added to the ranks of Amateur Radio, along with two who passed the General written element. Congratulations to all our candidates!
We are constantly playing radio- SSB, PSK, SSTV and other newer modes- working with it is the only way to improve.
