Street Level Maps of Kentucky and Tennessee for use with WinAPRS

The C.O.R.E. group has a number of members who are playing with APRS, the Automatic Position Reporting System. Among other things, this allows our wives to keep track of where we park the truck, but, on a more serious note, it allows our whereabouts to be known at all times if we are called out in a disaster. The equipment required for a minimal mobile station is quite simple- a 2 meter HT and antenna, a TNC or, if you want to go cheaper, a Tiny Tinytrak 3 from Byonics- basically a GPS data encoder between the radio and the GPS- and a GPS. A pretty simple setup. In this area there seem to be a large number of digipeaters, so you can be tracked by a home station either direct or thru a digipeater. Some members are using APRSPlus, which is an APRS overlay for DeLorme's excellent Street Atlas mapping software. Cost is the drawback here, and the requirement for much higher computer power. Others are playing with WinAPRS written by the Brothers Sproul, which runs nicely on my old 486 IBM Thinkpad. In order for all the good data out there to become useful information, you need good maps as a frame of reference. That is what I have posted here- street level detail, county by county for KY and TN. These include the newest option of Tiger maps as well, with even better detail. I have others- if you need another state and you are having difficulty locating the maps, e-mail me, K2LAW, and I'll see if I can locate it for you.

I am no longer serving up the maps by FTP. However, I do have them available by request. Contact me if you need specific Tiger or WinAPRS maps. Thanks for your patience. 73 de K2LAW Howard.
