At approximately 0430 on 10 November 2002, while preparing to go to Land Between the Lakes to support a Bicycle Race, the CORE Group was notified of a disaster response to a tornado touchdown out in the Port Royal Road area. Unfortunately, the two residents of the mobile home that was hit did not make it.

With most of the Group already forward at LBL for the bike race, our response consisted of Terry, N5HOT and Howard, K2LAW moving out to the scene to provide communications support and pass traffic, and Carmen, K1MED serving as the NCS at the Red Cross.

Once we were on station, we managed to relay thru a fellow amateur and a Dover repeater to the crew at LBL who headed back to assist with the response if necessary, having camped through the stormy night. By the time they returned, we had secured from the scene, with the road reopened and emergency crews leaving the scene.

The K4ORE 146.925- repeater is temporarily off the air pending a retune. I'll post here when it comes back up with improved coverage. 73 de Howard, K2LAW
